Government plans to cut councils out of the schools funding equation have come in for sharp criticism from local government leaders. In its response to the Government's consultation on plans to introduce a national schools funding formula, the f40 group of local authorities said that while the idea of a countrywide formula looked 'good on paper,' distribution should still be determined by local authorities. 'The concept that funding for all schools is predominantly the same is welcomed, but f40 believes that the amounts that are given to schools are better distributed by reference to local drivers and priorities,' said the group in its response.
