Bury MBC has become the first council in England to announce plans to collect non-recyclable waste every three weeks. The proposals went before the council's cabinet on 16 July, after The MJ went to press, as part of its new 'zero waste strategy'. Under the plans, grey bins for household waste that cannot be recycled will be collected every three weeks, instead of two. But green bins for paper and cardboard would be collected more often -once every three weeks - instead of the current four. And, the council would also increase blue bin collections for plastic, glass and cans to every three weeks.
