It can be argued that the internet is the most significant technology advance of the past 100 years. Its significance is not to be measured in terms of its technical capabilities, but in terms of the social changes it is unleashing. From self-publishing to virtual communities, radical openness and collaborative consumption, the internet opens up the potential for a new participatory culture.
