£1.9m for homeless

Communities minister Don Foster has allocated £1.9m to tackle councils' over-use of bed and breakfast accommodation as a means to end homelessness. Mr Foster said the cash must be used by councils to 'reduce the number of families unlawfully stuck in this unsuitable accommodation in their area'. He also urged councils to introduce new measures designed to tackle homelessness. Councils to receive funding under the scheme include Birmingham City Council (£297,000), Barking and Da-genham LBC (£300,000) and Crawley BC (£299,150).
