Suffolk transfers care homes to private firm

Suffolk CC has approved plans to transfer its care homes and wellbeing centres to the operator Care UK. The county council's cabinet voted in favour of the deal on 16 October. The deal will see Care UK invest more than £60m in building 10 new care homes and 10 wellbeing centres over the next four years. Care UK will assume day-today operational responsibility for the local authority's 16 care homes and eight wellbeing centres, and more than 1,000 council staff will transfer over to it on existing staff terms. Care UK was named as the - council's preferred bidder in April, having been chosen from a list of 23. Work on the new homes and centres should be completed by 2016.
