Councils keep on giving to charity

Many councils are responding to the bud-get cuts with positive funding packages for voluntary groups, according to research by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO). Earlier this year, the third sector organisation had written a joint letter with Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (ACEVO) to all councils to ask about cuts to the voluntary sector. NCVO policy manager, James Allen, said they had now received responses from 94 district and county councils, and 45% of those which had so far responded, said they had protected their voluntary sector funding, with 6% reporting they had actually increased their budgets.
