Time to trim the procurers

Procurement is not helpful in adding value for money when it comes to difficult and sophisticated consultancy contracts. That was the unanimous view expressed during a recent meeting of HR directors and consultants, who were discussing a range of recruitment issues. The sheer depth of feeling indicates that this is an issue which is largely unacknowledged, and which appears to have crept up on many organisations, unawares. To get some broad views, I spoke to three people about how they saw this issue as it affected the recruitment of top people across the public sector.
