Health/social care integration top of council bosses' agenda

The integration of health and social care is at the top of the agenda for almost all council bosses, according to a new survey. Consultants iMPOWER's survey of chief executives and directors revealed the overriding feeling among local government leaders was that integration was key to securing the long-term future of health and social care services. The survey comes as the Government revealed plans to axe the Better Care Fund's £lbn conditional performance payment to help combat the growing problem of delayed transfers from hospital, sometimes referred to as bed blocking. A policy paper published by the Department of Health last week showed ministers wanted to replace it with a requirement to fund out-of-hospital services instead.
