Local authorities will be required to allocate at least 80% of their delegated schools block funding on the basis of the needs of pupils in local areas from 2014/15, ministers have announced. In a statement issued on 4 June, schools minister David Laws outlined further steps to maintain progress towards a national funding formula, which the coalition intends to take effect from the next Spending Review period. As part of the review on school funding reforms, the Department for Education is to set a minimum amount that each pupil should receive - amounting to ￡2,000 at primary level and at least ￡3,000 at key stages three and four in 2014/15.
