Sector-led enhancement programme goes public

Smith Square has finally made public its consultation on the future of sector-led improvement - four months after it was completed. The Local Government Association (LGA) had previously refused to make the document public until it had gauged the views of ministers, however the report was leaked to The MJ. Head of leadership and productivity at the LGA, Dennis Skinner, this week said there had been a 'brief conversation' with local government minister Marcus Jones on the subject, with further discussions expected. He added: 'Our understanding is the Government is very supportive of peer challenge and sector-led improvement. It would be keen for all councils to participate.'
