Under siege Tower Hamlets LBC has hit out at the auditors sent in by communities secretary Eric Pickles and denied that it is obstructing the inquiry. Executive mayor of Tower Hamlets Lutfur Rahman has written to auditors PwC accusing the firm and Mr Pickles of 'misrepresenting' the council by claiming it has been blocking the investigation. The letter, seen by The MJ, alleges that an earlier letter from PwC to the Department of Communities and Local Government's deputy director for democracy, Paul Rowsell, presented an allegedly 'inaccurate view' of the council's level of co-operation with the inquiry. The mayor's letter disputes PwC's list of requests on which the auditor says it was still awaiting an answer.
