HR is at the heart of the wider agenda including Gershon, performance management, capacity building, CPA and improvement. In a recent lunch debate organised by The MJ and Tribal Resourcing, top HR managers from the north discussed some of the key topics - as well as concerns which divert their attention from the bigger picture. There is hardly an issue among the so-called modernisation agenda that does not involve HR at some juncture. The entire thrust of the Gershon efficiency programme involves streamlining how staff organise their work. Much of the improvement drive which is linked to the CPA is about staff motivation and using their enthusiasm and commitment to help drive up performance. And what is customer focus but about changing staff attitudes to how they see their role?
