An ageing population - above the national average - is pkcing disproportionate demands on health and social services in Hampshire. Nationally, the over-65s occupy two-thirds of general and acute hospital beds, as well as accounting for half of the recent growth in emergency admissions. Care of older people is a key priority for us. And that's why Hampshire CC is already strongly involved with developing new health initiatives, such as the 500 nursing beds for older people we are providing, in partnership with the NHS, to tackle the shortage of nursing care across the county.
