Sustainable rural communities: affordable homes for the future

Affordable housing has a crucial role to play in creating better, more sustainable rural communities. In its Housing Green Paper, the Government has pledged to build 70,000 affordable homes a year by 2011. This is within an overall target of 240,000 additional homes per year, in order to deliver 2 million homes by 2016 and 3 million homes by 2020. These are ambitious targets, aimed at realising a vision of providing access to a decent home to everyone at a price they can afford, in a place where they want to live and work.The Commission for Rural Communities (CRC) supports this vision and welcomes the new targets.
