How long have you been in your current role? Nearly three years. Previous key jobs: I've changed careers several times, having been an engineer, an agriculturalist, an educationalist, a consultant and a general manager in the private and public sectors. What was your big break, when was it and where? I've had two big breaks, one negative and one positive. The negative was over ten years ago when I worked in a poorly led organisation. It was there that I learnt first hand how not to do things. The positive was when appointed as head of HR & OD in Somerset CC where I have an exceptional role with exceptional people. Who gave it to you? As a members appointment, it was the three political party leaders. Why was it so important? Their faith and that of the chief executive allowed me the freedom to deliver the changes that needed to be delivered, in a way that I was never able to do before.
