Place-based budget approach 'too timid'

The LGA is to be congratulated on producing a first-class policy paper on Place-based budgets in July.All the more disappointing, then, to read the uninspiring, article on this topic by Bill Cooper and Ben Lucas ('Meeting the place-based challenge', The MJ, 12 August).These authors adopt a timid approach and advocate yet more 'pilots' for a few favoured localities. Current circumstances, as the LGA recognises, cry out for a far bolder approach.
