Departments 'fail to get best deal' for energy use

Whitehall departments have been urged to review their energy use and procurement, after it emerged the complex web of current suppliers had left some departments facing annual bills of more than flm.Several key Whitehall departments recently responded to Freedom of Information (Fol) requests, outlining how much they spent on electricity and gas.It followed concerns that, despite a Whitehall-wide commitment to reducing carbon emissions and slashing procurement costs, some departments are not getting the best deals possible from their energy suppliers. Many departments are also struggling to meet Cabinet Office targets to reduce their Co_2 emissions.
