Bupa defends care industry after Southern Cross chaos

Private healthcare provider, Bupa, has defended the care home industry as the controversy surrounding Southern Cross continues. Cash-strapped Southern Cross announced last week that it was cutting its rent payments by 30% for the next four months, in a bid to keep afloat. The announcement prompted more concern from charities and politicians about the long-term future of the company, which looks after 31,000 resi- dents in 750 homes around the country. But Bupa said in a statement that the majority of private care home providers 'are still doing a good job'.
