Questions have been raised regarding the pro-vision of social care from councils, including how it is funded and the standard of service.Councils have been called on by think-tank, the Local Government Information Unit (LGiU), to take action against higher costs for care, and the lack of financial advice available for those self-funding care in later life, which may result in people requiring state support.The think-tank's report, titled Independ-ent ageing: Council support of care self-funders, found 61% of local authorities did not know how many self-funders relied on state care, and almost half underestimated the cost related to this issue.
