How long have you been in your current role? Since August 2011. Previous key jobs: Director of libraries and culture, Westminster City Council; head of planning and review, Berkshire CC Cultural Services; assistant director, The Library Association. What was your big break, when was it and where? Getting the job at The Library Association in 1981. Who gave it to you? I was encouraged by my then boss, Leslie Cannon in Barking and Dagenham LBC, and my wife Carole, to go for it. They were right! Why was it so important? It changed my whole outlook on libraries and how organisations work.
