In many ways, last week's Autumn Statement confirmed what many of us already knew - these unprecedentedly-challenging times for local government aren't about to start getting any easier. Local government has borne the brunt of cuts to public spending so far, and while it was pleasing that the Local Government Association's (LGA) campaigning on behalf of the sector resulted in councils being protected from additional cuts next year, we believe the extra 2% cut in 2014/15 is unsustainable without reforming the way national government works with local government.
