Ministers have urged poor-performing councils to improve the time taken to place children with adoptive families, after official figures revealed 37 local authorities failed to meet two government targets. While it took some authorities an average of two-and-a-half years to successfully place children in their care into adoption, for the top 15 councils, the process was achieved in less than 18 months, on average.
