How long have you been in your current role? Since November 2006. Previous key jobs: Director of social servicesHaringey, chief community care officer - Redbridge. What was your big break, when was it and where? In 1990 I was asked to lead a big departmental re-organisation; this was the springboard for highlighting my skills and showing versatility which lead to me applying for and succeeding as assistant director in Redbridge. Who gave it to you? My then director, who thought the project would help me build more management experience. Why was it so important? It was my first real role that wasn't service specific and helped me develop a big picture perspective across a whole department; which has been vitally important ever since.
