Call to share views on welfare reform

Government spending watchdogs have asked all English councils to share their experiences of establishing localised council tax benefit (CTB) schemes. The National Audit Office (NAO) consultation, which doses on 6 September, gives local authorities the chance to provide key data and share views on the early impacts of the welfare reform - which took effect this April. Overall funding was reduced by £410m and councils were required to develop individual schemes, which protected vulnerable groups such as pensioners, but in some cases led to working age jobless people paying local charges.
