County treasurers have claimed residents in two-tier council areas receive just a third of the government funding doled out to some areas of inner London. The study by the Society of County Treasurers, which is not being published, highlights a big difference in average government grant funding depending on the type of council between 2008/09 and 2012/13. It showed that the average annual grant to shire counties and districts for each resident was £260 compared to more than £700 for inner London authorities. The figure for unitary councils and outer London authorities was between £350 and £400, while it was £500 for metropolitan districts.
