100 councils benefit from £89m cashpot

More than 100 local authorities have received a share of an £89.4m cashpot which aims to deliver nearly £1bn of long-term benefits. In total, some 73 bids, involving 122 local authorities and a further 165 partner organisations from the wider public, private and voluntary sector, were successful in the latest round of the Government's Transformation Challenge Award. Among those awarded cash, three councils taking part in the Early Intervention Foundation's 'Pioneering Places' scheme scooped a total of £7.6m from the Department for Communities and Local Government fund. Essex CC was given £3.3m to improve information sharing across organisations within the county to boost integration attempts, Croydon LBC will use its £1.5m award to advance its 'Best Start' early years integration service and Newcastle City Council will spend its £2.8m cash injection to transform how infants and families are helped to overcome poor mental health and parental substance misuse.
