Inverclyde Council has set up a taskforce to help workers affected by the news that Ferguson Shipbuilders has gone into receivership. Around 80 jobs are thought to be under threat after it was announced the shipyard, which is the last of its kind on the Lower Clyde, had called in receivers. Joint administrators from KPMG said the company had gone bust due to a lack of orders and mounting pressure on its cashflow. 'I am shocked by this news about Ferguson's, but can assure the workforce and community that we will do all that we can to help,' said Inverclyde Council leader, Cllr Stephen McCabe.
