KPMG calls for pensions merger

Confusion reigns over the future of the Local Government Pension Scheme after two major reports drew different conclusions over the question of whether to merge funds. KPMG pension experts have called on a merger based on the type of employer - while Hymans Robertson remains sceptical over joining up funds. Director at KPMG, Steve Simkins, who was a strategic adviser to Lord Hutton's independent public service pensions commission, urged the Government to consider the idea of 'horizontal integration' of funds.
