Concerned councils have warned they may not be able to deliver the Government's pledge to protect people from being forced to cash in their homes. The Government committed in April 2013 to provide £5.6bn to councils between April 2016 and March 2021 to implement reforms in the Care Act. But new figures published by the Department of Health showed government has now reduced this five-year commitment by £650m - a reduction of almost 12%. Chairman of the Local Government Association's community wellbeing board, Cllr Izzi Seccombe (pictured). said Whitehall's view was 'shortsighted against the backdrop of a care system which is already chronically under-funded'.
