No decision yet on directly-elected mayors

Devolution plans in Durham and the West Midlands have been given the public seal of approval, although the jury is still out on directly-elected mayors. A survey of almost 82,000 residents in Durham found six in 10 were in favour of devolving more power and resources to the North East of England. But residents were split over the subject of a directly-elected mayor for the region. Just under half (47.8%) thought the powers of the mayor should be limited while four in 10 were in favour of the post having more influence.
