Making the most of our community

Community Services bring together a varied range of the council's front-end activities including housing management, welfare rights, community development, libraries and information, heritage, leisure and tourism. A borough with a surprisingly high level - 45% - of Green Belt also contains a wealth of historic buildings, some 12,500 council homes and innovative leisure and cemetery services. In partnership with the Primary Care Trust as it now is, the council also supports the oldest exercise-on-prescription programme in the country. It has also built a pioneering eco-home to test theories of environmentally-friendly house building in a practical way.
