It's that day again, when the political future of many of our elected members is decided at the ballot box. Tomorrow morning there will be sighs of relief from some officers that a member is a member no more, while there will be sighs of exasperation at a new member's insistence they can change the world in a day-and-a-half. But, whatever the results, there will be those who once again question why we need councillors at all. Indeed, on the Improvement and Development Agency's website, Dr James Souttar and Paul Hoskins, from Precedent Communications, pose interesting questions about the future of elected members.
