Local government efficiency savings could be 'jeopardised' as ICT departments are in danger of becoming 'stretched to breaking point', it has been claimed.SOCITM's annual IT trends report warned continued budget cuts would compromise local authority ICT departments' ability to deliver savings elsewhere. The study warned funding for local authority ICT would fall by 11% in 2009/10, and predicted a 10% reduction in staff. The CLG claimed councils were expected to find innovative ways to make services more cost effective, rather than just cutting services. But John Serle, the report's editor, told The MJ, it was difficult to see how this could be done without increasing investment in technology.
