Leaders seek power for authorities

Council leaders have challenged MPs to use their draft legislation to create new powers to free up local authorities. The LGA has prepared a draft Local Government (Power of General Competence) bill and called on MPs to make it law. Plans to widen councils' remit were thwarted by the judgement of the Court of Appeal on the LAML case.
