EY report confirms care fund concerns

Embedding prevention within the social care system will require an annual £1.3bn cash injection over the next four years - big four consultancy group EY has estimated. EY recommended the Government's next Budget should divert a total of £5.2bn until 2019/20 into a transformation fund - in a report commissioned by the Local Government Association (LGA) and issued 24 June. Analysts calculated the £1.3bn size of the annual transformation cash pot on the basis of 2013/14 estimates for the gap in adult social care funding - and an assumption of no extra funding cuts from this autumn's Spending Review. A further recommendation advises any such transformation fund should be bolstered by a pooled health and social care budget of at least £6.6bn in 2016/17 - a precursor for the pooling of all cash for health and social care.
