Devolution plans 'should be wrapped into one offer'

Local-government should seize control of the devolution agenda by cooperating to deliver a single devolution deal to the chancellor next month, one of the sector's most influential voices has suggested. Writing for The MJ, president of the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives (SOLACE), Mark Rogers, suggested the sector was yet again 'missing an important trick' as councils lurched towards George Osborne's September deadline. Mr Rogers wrote: "This economic equivalent to the supermarket trolley dash has, once again, pitched council against council, LEP against LEP - while central government stands on the sideline yelling faster, faster, more, more, now, now!!!
