Ministers will this week set out measures which would make it easier to dismiss council chief executives and other senior managers. In a written ministerial statement laid before Parliament on 24 March, local government minister, Kris Hopkins, confirmed the Government would issue secondary legislation ending the need to appoint a 'designated independent person' - usually a senior lawyer with QC status - to review dismissal and disciplinary cases involving top council officers.
