Robert Jenrick has told The MJ his department 'stands ready' to guide councils through Brexit amid a review of the sector's readiness for no-deal. In an interview, the communities secretary said he thought the sector's preparedness had 'improved very significantly' since the department had 'escalated and intensified' its efforts and had asked councils to do the same on being appointed six weeks ago. Mr Jenrick admitted that Brexit 'may pose a range of concurrent challenges' but stressed there would be a 'large team' available in the department to help. He said: 'I'm very grateful for the hard work that local government has already done. What's very important is that we continue to work together.'
