Budget excess to force Sheffield reserves spending

Sheffield City Council will dip into its reserves as it faces a budget overspend totalling £21 m over two years. Deputy leader, Cllr Olivia Blake (pictured), said the only alternative would have been to make cuts to Sheffield's social services. The adult and children's care services will receive a £20m boost in funding in 2019/20, following an increase in demand. Next year's budget also includes £30m of savings, bringing the total made since 2010 to £460m.
