Two councils in joint deal to save cash

Bexley and Bromley LBCs have joined forces to invite tenders for the running of their revenue and benefits services. By procuring the contract in partnership, the two councils hope to achieve cost efficiencies through economies of scale. It is expected that both councils will maintain separate contracts, but with the opportunity for a single service provider, leveraging cost efficiencies and joint working opportunities. Bexley's cabinet member for resources, Cllr David Leaf, said: 'By working together we hope to find a provider that can deliver the high quality of service we require and the best possible value for money for our council taxpayers.' Bromley's portfolio holder for resources, commissioning and contracts management, Cllr Graham Arthur, added: 'We are seeking the best way forward that meets the interests of our customers and council taxpayers. 'While recognising that separate contractors could be the best option, this partnership approach provides a new opportunity to enable further efficiency and cost savings through a joint contractor with potential future benefits of joint investment.'
