CITEFA (Centro de Investigaciones Cientificas y Tecnicas de las Fuerzas Armadas) developed a short range surface-to-air missile known as HALCON. The missile resembles the Roland SAM. Development was delayed for political and economic reasons. The HALCON uses flexible delta-shaped foreplanes, four fixed tailfins, and a thrust deflector system for maneuvering. The guidance system includes radar links, autopilot, a power source, a radio beacon, and an electromagnetic proximity fuze. The warhead uses an HE fragmentation charge and affords a kill zone of greater than 6 meters. The missile is stored, transported, and fired in its fiberglass container, does not require any maintenance, and has a five-year shelf life. This configuration will allow HALCON to be fired from Roland launchers. Technical data are as follows: Length - 2.5 m; Diameter- 0.17 m; Span - 0.56 m; Weight - 90 kg; Weight of Warhead - 12 kg; Maximum Range - 7 km; Motor - solid fuel, single stage; Control - canard type, stabilized by rotation; Guidance - optronic or radar following the LOS (line-of-sight); Initial Acceleration 27 g; Max Altitude - 6,000 m.
