In amongst the vast swathes of blue and red Minis you typically see at any Mini show, Tony Pearson's lean, mean, green machine is instantly recognisable. Therein lies one of his more compelling reasons for maintaining a BL colour scheme which was never exactly a runaway success. Then again, his Java Green Mini 1000 never looked this good, even when it fought its way through the BL picket lines to find its first owner in 1977. That's exactly what Tony started with when, at 16, he bought the car off his brother for £850. "I felt like I was ripped off," he recalls of his first automotive investment. "It was in a right old state." As the fourth member of the family to own the car, he had watched as first his mum, then his dad and finally his brother had used and abused the little car. Now complete with white Weller wheels, black plastic arches and some suspect 'upgrades' added by his brother, the green Mini was hardly an item to cherish.
