It started innocently enough. Fully-qualified vehicle technician and total Mini fan Greg lenkins was given a dilapidated 1966 Austin 850 De Luxe for restoration way back in August 1997. After stripping it down, though, nothing happenedrnto it for eight years. "I think I was overwhelmed by how much rot there was," he admits. Add to this the fact he was heavily into Stock Car racing and had no spare time, and you can see why the project was shelved. But in 2005 Greg had a brilliant idea: Why notrnrestore and modify the 850 to become the red car from his favourite film? Then he could get another two cars and he'd have the set. "I thought it would be cool to own three such wicked cars and be able to take them to shows for people to enjoy," he says, and he'd be right.
