1966 Scottish Rally

The year of 1966 was a busy one for the BMC Comps Dept. It started off with the infamous Monte Carlo Rally, followed by 15 other rallies and several races with MGBs. Stuart Turner's superb organising abilities never failed to find a solution to any given problem. In June the Comps Dept was busy preparing cars and organising entries for the Geneva Rally. It clashed with the Scottish Rally which meant that Stuart had to find a service crew, a fully prepared car and a couple to crew that car!I was therefore asked (told) by Stuart to undertake the whole operation under the Special Tuning Department using DJB 93B, a Morris Mini Cooper S that had already had a pretty active life. Photographs show that it was the same car that Timo Makinen used on the 1965 Acropolis Rally with a roof-mounted spotlight. Mike Wood says he was also 'told' by Stuart to co-drive the Scottish Rally with Tony Fall and also that they were not expected to finish!
