Talking tyres

Tyres which will work effectively on snow and ice are few and far between in the 10-inch classic Mini size but the situation has improved in recent years. Studded snow tyres are not allowed on UK roads but are legal in most European ountries, subject to certain restrictions. If competing in European winter rallies you will meet snow and ice in quantity so a good studded tyre is essential. Snow chains are not ideal. Without pre-conditioning (running in for several miles) it can be a bit nerve wracking with brand new studded tyres but they improve as the tyre wears because the studs become more exposed and bite into the ice.
