In 2010 Dave had owned his blue 1967 English Austin Moke for about 12 years, during which he had refurbished it and fitted a new soft top, seat cushions, etc, turning it into a prize-winning car. A friend had given him a set of Mini Light wheels for it. "He'd bought them for a trailer but they wouldn't fit. They were put in the garage to be fitted at a later date." Soon after, he went to a Mini show. "I was talking to a bloke there who had two Mokes: an old one and one he'd just refurbished. He asked me if I was interested in a Barton Hardtop. My ears pricked up and I thought, 'yes, it's a bit rare'. So I went along to see it. It was in a bit of a mess.
