Breakthrough: AC VFD drives on shuttle cars

Joy Mining Machinery has achieved a major breakthrough by applying AC variable frequency drives (VFD) to shuttle cars providing them with significant increases in power, speed and productivity while at the same time increasing operator comfort and decreasing mine inventory and maintenance costs. Since April, two Joy shuttle cars equipped with the new VFD drives have been in operation at Drummond Coal Company's Shoal Creek mine in Adger, Alabama, US. According to Joy, results to date indicate that the cars meet all performance and operational expectations.
