Total paper usage in U.S. magazines, catalogs and newspaper inserts are projected to decline from 2010-2014, John Maine, Vice President of World Graphic Papers for RISI told attendees at Paper2011 held last month in Chicago. "North American demand for Uncoated Freesheet enjoyed a reprieve from declines in early 2010, but [are] now slipping again," he said. Overall North American inventory in the system for coated paper and uncoated mechanical paper is low going into 2011, which could give the mills a strong case for price hikes, Maine predicted. World demand for Uncoated and Coated Woodfree and Coated and Uncoated Mechanical papers is projected to be modest from 2011-2013, he noted.
