Demand For OCC Starts To Soften

Domestic demand for Old Corrugated Containers (OCC) is starting to soften in most areas across the country, almost in sync with export demand slowing down due in part to increases in ocean freight rates which took effect on April 1, report RM sources. "China is not buying strong right now due to a few factors: their economy is slowing down, an increase in freight rates and a tightness of available containers," said one scrap fiber broker based in the Midwest.
