It is worth remembering that compositional standards for various food products were developed to protect consumers' interests by ensuring that products purchased are what consumers think they are. This does not prevent new products being developed and marketed. The essential requirement is that modified products carry names which inform consumers of their true nature, so they can exercise choice.
